New CBPP Resource on School Lunch Eligibility for Youth in Care

In December of last year, President Obama signed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 into law (P.L. 111-296).  In so doing, youth in foster care became categorically eligible for school lunch, easing administrative hurdles to accessing this support. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities recently highlighted this provision in an article titled, “Six Ways that States and School Districts Can Make it Easier for Children in Foster Care to Get Free Meals at School.”  CBPP notes the important role that a consistent, healthy meal can have in the lives of youth in care.
