The White House recently announced a new e-petition initiative, We the People, designed to promote engagement between the public and the Obama Administration. According to the White House Blog, once the site goes live individuals will be able to create or sign an online petition on a range of issues and get an official response (pending the accumulation of at least 5000 signatures). Once a petition is submitted, the creator will be given a unique link to share with others in order to gather signatures. Once the petition collects at least 150 signatures, it will become searchable on www.WhiteHouse.gov, where the public will be able to sign the petition.
The White House is currently accepting advice and feedback on We the People via the WhiteHouse.gov site and on twitter using hashtag #WHWeb. You can also sign up for email alerts to get updates from the President and his staff and to be the first to know when the petition goes live.
