Another Congressional Leader has accepted an invitation to speak at the CWLA Annual Conference, Making Children a Priority: Leading Change, February 26-29, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA) has agreed to address the conference. Mr. McDermott is a high-ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee for Human Resources. He is a passionate leader on child welfare issues in Congress. He has been at the forefront of all recent major child welfare legislation including the Fostering Connections Act in 2008 and the Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act last year. He is scheduled to make his remarks at the Advocacy Day plenary, Tuesday morning, February 28th.
If you haven’t registered for the conference yet we urge you to do so. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for child welfare advocates to engage their colleagues and federal policymakers around the issues of most importance to vulnerable children and families. The conference will include a pre-conference advocacy institute on Sunday, February 26, that outlines how to successfully advocate for children and families. The conference will also feature dynamic keynote speakers, including Dr. Sheryl Brissett Chapman. We have invited Representatives Geoff Davis (R-KY), Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Resources and Karen Bass (D-CA) to accept our Advocate of the Year Awards at our Gala.
